MS SQL Development Database Administrator

Position Overview

The Development DBA is responsible for working with the Applications Development, Quality Assurance, Business Analysts and end users in reviewing, optimizing and developing stored procedures, views, and triggers.  Additionally, the Development DBA will support data integration between various business systems with multiple versions of SQL Server.  Other responsibilities include daily maintenance, performance analysis and tuning, support and monitoring of production related activities, tracking and correcting production defects, implementing enhancements through an established change management control process.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Daily database maintenance and administration and database tuning.
  • Facilitate database related change control and management processes.
  • Assist application development teams with development efforts and to ensure proper database standards are utilized.
  • Assist IT helpdesk to in deploying production data modifications.
  • Monitors all production database jobs and processes, verifies database backups and conducts database restores when needed.
  • Conducts data synchronization between multiple environments.

 

Required Skills:
  • Minimum 5 + years of work experience as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator 2000 and 2005
  • Skills in database performance factors, monitoring tools and tuning procedures.
  • Experience with daily maintenance of large databases. 
  • Solid skills in productivity factors and ability to understand impact of problem on overall database performance
  • Knowledge of fault detection and resolution processes
  • Strong skills in maintenance tools and procedures
  • Project Management experience in a team member capacity
  • Experience designing and developing database and data warehouse solutions using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005
  • SQL programming experience including T-SQL, DTS, and SSIS
  • Experience designing and programming complex stored procedures, views, data aggregation/manipulation through table joins/queries
  • Experience designing and implementing large-scale database solutions that are reliable, scalable, and perform at a high level.
  • Database and index tuning experience
  • Experience with SQL clustering, SQL replication, hardware replication, and/or disaster recovery implementations a plus
  • Expertise in installation, upgrade and configuration of MS SQL Server
  • Experience using version control system, e.g. Microsoft Visual Source Safe
  • Facilitate database related change management control processes.
  • Experience using a structured software development methodology
  • Experience in driving process change
  • Excellent coordination skills to manage system resources and deliverables
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter and within a team environment, with dedication to follow thru until objectives are met
  • Creating installation scripts - including base installation scripts to create the tables, indexes, stored procedures and initial data
  • Data modeling - Creating and enhancing the physical and logical data models

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, or Business Administration. Computer Sciences, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • MCDBA, MCTS, MCITP, or MCA Certification desired, but not required.
